To illustrate the help available to people with head and neck cancer (HNC), CURE talked with three survivors who are now active mentors and volunteers with SPOHNC.
"I must confess I promised SPOHNC I would write my ten-year survivor story. Only now it's fourteen years. Can you say procrastination? How time flies, when you're having fun recovering from cancer. I'd better finish this before it becomes my fifteen-year survivor story."
"I was nearly 60 years old, had never smoked, hadn’t drunk since college, and had run a marathon every year for roughly 30 years. Sickness was what happened to other people. I felt victimized. "

SPOHNC is pleased to introduce EmergingMed’s Clinical Trial Navigation Service. We want you to be aware of all of your treatment options. SPOHNC has partnered with EmergingMed to offer you a way to take action.
The CTNS is a free, unbiased service to help you find and connect with head and neck cancer clinical trials that may be an option for you. Call the Clinical Trial Navigators at 844-432-3888, email email@example.com or start your confidential search online for clinical trials that match your specific diagnosis, stage, and treatment history.
How does the service work?
The Clinical Trial Navigators will help you quickly search the entire national database for clinical trials that match your specific situation. They recommend that you search for clinical trial options before you begin your first treatment if possible, and again each time you are making a new treatment decision. This information service is designed to help you identify options—but you are NEVER obligated to enroll in a study. We simply never want to hear someone say: “I wish I had known about that earlier.” The service is free for patients and families; it is unbiased and completely confidential.
Clinical trials are research studies that test how well new medical approaches work in people with early and advanced head and neck cancers. They have a natural place in your review of treatment options as doctors strive to improve current head and neck cancer treatments and search for new and better options. Today there are various types of targeted therapies and immunotherapies in development, so there are more options to consider than ever before.
We Have Walked in Your Shoes: A Guide to Living with Oral, Head and Neck Cancer is a welcomed guide for patients, survivors and their families. It is beautifully illustrated with impressionistic paintings of the 1800's.
We Have Walked In Your Shoes… contains a wealth of information for newly diagnosed patients, caregivers, and those patients going through treatment. Healhcare professionals, clinics, diagnostic centers and cancer institutions throughout the U.S. will also find this book to be of great value for their patients.
