Support for People with Oral and Head and Neck Cancer (SPOHNC) is a self-help nonprofit organization involved in the development of programs of support. As such it can have an enormous positive impact on meeting the psychosocial needs of patients as well as preserving, restoring and promoting physical and emotional health.
SPOHNC is dedicated to raising awareness and meeting the needs of oral and head and neck cancer patients.
When Lewis was diagnosed with throat cancer their very good friend found SPOHNC. At that time, there were no chapters within 100 miles of their home, so they reached out to SPOHNC’s National Survivor Volunteer Network. They were matched with survivors around the country who had similar experiences…dry mouth, feeding tube questions, sores in the mouth, not being able to lay flat without gagging, the mucous, and on and on. Both were very grateful to find an organization that was so supportive to each of them.
Amy told Lewis “if we come out of this cancer free, we are going to give back and start a local chapter in Palm Coast, FL.”
Today the Bielman’s have a thriving group of survivors and caregivers who support one another through thick and thin. Your support now, more than ever, is critical. Your generosity has brought us such a great distance since 1991.
Please help to continue SPOHNC’s strong history of patient support by making a contribution today to our Annual Appeal!
In 1991, when SPOHNC was founded, there were very few support groups specifically for oral and head and neck cancer patients. Today, SPOHNC is pleased to have more than 100 chapters throughout the United States.
News From SPOHNC features articles of interest to oral and head and neck cancer patients, their families. Become a member of SPOHNC and receive the newsletter.
These two books are hard cover books of recipes and information about eating challenges and nutrition, cancer journeys of survivors and suggestions and “Tips From the Pros.”

LIVING MY LIFE
"Sleeping during the day was frequent, but I felt that I had made the leap to being only 80% a patient and 20% a man leading his life. With each day, the percentage changed and it was always moving in the right direction."
